Who we are
our team
Sarah Drummond is the co-founder of Snook
Sarah focuses on making social change happen by re-thinking public services from a human perspective. During 2010, Sarah was sponsored by Skills Development Scotland to work alongside their Service Design and Innovation Directorate to implement the design process in their organisation.
She thrives leading processes of change, putting design thinking at the heart of organisations. Her work challenges the role of design within the public sector, as the winner of the first Scottish Social Innovation Camp Sarah is ambitiously challenging the way governments operate and make policies through initiatives such as MyPolice.
Prior to being the Director of Snook, Sarah won £20,000 for a deprived community in Glasgow. ‘Get Go’ used techniques and skills adopted from the service design process to create a co-produced social enterprise that tackled crime. The project relied on prototyping, visualisation skills and co-design. These are topics Sarah teaches at Universities all over Europe, recently teaching a group of design students from Auburn University, U.S how to rapidly and efficiently prototype public services for young people.
Lauren Currie is the co-founder of Snook
With an enthusiasm for service design, public services and working for people, Lauren is focused on changing the lives of Scottish people through design and practical action. People know Lauren as Redjotter: a trailblazing, inspiring innovator and a very vocal advocate for giving the service design sector meaning, evidence and impact.
Prior to being Director of Snook, Lauren worked as a freelance Service Designers for Designthinkers in Holland, Deutsche Telekom Laboratories ( T-Labs ) in Berlin and London-based Future Gov. She regularly talks to design students and graduates nationwide; inspiring and guiding them in using their talents in a worn-out system that doesn’t help them thrive.
As the Director of MyPolice, Lauren is working closely with the Police and the public to ensure the service is the very best it can be. Lauren is currently leading the MyPolice pilot in a prototyping phase with Tayside Police.

Andy’s skills lie with his ability to listen to people and help them understand & articulate the various challenges they face.
Joanna Hill is a Designer at Snook
Originally from a Fine Art background (University of NSW, Australia) majoring in Short Film Joanna was swept up early in the excitement of the web bubble during 2001. She swapped her 16mm camera for the world of digital and began working as a Web Designer at studios in Sydney and later Melbourne. She was instilled with an unflappable new mission – to bring good graphic design to the world of the interweb.
In an age before job’s titles like ‘Information Architect’ and ‘Experience Designer’ Joanna developed a keen sense of empathy and expertise around designing for the ‘User’, committed deeply to the idea that every interaction was a chance to understand and enrich a User’s experience. Over the next decade she helped design and develop a variety of web based projects including e-commerce, intranet’s, training and education sites, and social networking platforms for a diverse range of commercial clients ranging from major telcoms to local government.
In 2008 Joanna moved to Paris to take her Web Design knowledge to the world of Advertising and over the next 3 years she applied digital know-how to produce projects for global brands and campaigns including Louis Vuitton, Nestlé and Mattel.
Following a year honing her entrepreneurial, creative and management skills at Hyper Island, Stockholm, Joanna now works as a Service Designer for Snook in Glasgow where she brings her digital background to the world of service design thinking and public services
Michael Pierre Johnson is a Designer at Snook
Graduate of BDes Product Design at the Glasgow School of Art in 2008, Michael specialises in social innovation, service design and human-centred research.
He is currently a partner with design consultancy, Buro Design Thinking, while also doing part-time tutoring for the Product Design course at GSA and volunteers on local community projects to develop the role design can have in empowering communities.
Michael believes that a human-centred design process has an inherent value in engaging the deepest issues of society for it respects the user – the person/people who will use a service, product or system – as informant on their own experiences. It demands conscientious and collaborative research establishing informed project directions relevant to needs followed by a skilfull deciphering and building of relevant solutions alongside the user.
Once upon a Snook…
It’s sad when people leave Snook, but we know that they are embarking on exciting adventures, having got a lot out of their experiences here. And they’ve usually got a rubber chicken in their bag so look out for them…

Kirsty is now embarking up on a new adventure in the world of design.

"Passionate, enthusiastic, creative, inspiring, dynamic...I could go on but I’m sure you get the picture. These words are often used, but rarely are they found in such a combination. A few short months ago I had not heard of Lauren and Sarah and knew nothing about service design, I came across them and their work on twitter (a micro-blogging service) and have been following them and their work ever since. Start a conversation, talk to them, let them inspire you and do it NOW while you still can; they will be hitting the big time soon."
